How to Choose a Fan for Baghouse Dust Collectors?

The fan is the core power component of the baghouse dust collector, responsible for providing the necessary air volume and negative pressure to drive the flue gas circulation and dust capture. Choosing the right fan directly affects the dust removal effect, energy consumption and stable operation of the dust collector. The key selection points are as follows:

First, determine the required air volume. The air volume of the fan should be 10-20% higher than the actual dust generation air volume of the dust collector to ensure that the dusty flue gas can be completely captured and treated. The actual air volume is determined by the dust generation point (number, size), dust concentration and workshop space. For example, a single polishing machine needs a fan with an air volume of 1000-3000m³/h, while a centralized dust collector for a large workshop needs an air volume of 10000-50000m³/h.

Second, calculate the required static pressure. The static pressure of the fan needs to overcome the resistance of the entire dust collection system, including the resistance of the filter bags (initial resistance 800-1200Pa, full dust resistance 1500-2000Pa), pipeline resistance (500-1000Pa), dust collection hood resistance (200-500Pa) and other accessories resistance. The fan static pressure should be 10-15% higher than the total system resistance to avoid insufficient pressure caused by resistance increase during long-term operation.

Third, select the fan type. The commonly used fans for baghouse dust collectors are centrifugal fans and axial flow fans. Centrifugal fans have the advantages of high pressure, stable air volume, low noise and strong adaptability, which are suitable for most baghouse dust collectors (especially large-air-volume, high-resistance systems); axial flow fans have large air volume but low pressure, which are only suitable for small baghouse dust collectors with low resistance (such as small silo top dust collectors).

Fourth, consider the working environment. For high-temperature flue gas (150℃), select high-temperature resistant fans (such as fans with high-temperature resistant impellers and bearings) to avoid fan damage caused by high temperature; for corrosive flue gas (such as chemical, electroplating workshops), select corrosion-resistant fans (impellers made of stainless steel or anti-corrosion coating) to prevent corrosion; for flammable and explosive dust occasions, select explosion-proof fans (explosion-proof motor, sealed structure) to ensure safety.

Fifth, pay attention to energy consumption and noise. Choose fans with high efficiency (energy efficiency grade 1 or 2) to reduce long-term operating costs; the fan noise should be ≤85dB(A), and a muffler can be installed if necessary to meet the workshop noise standard. In addition, consider the installation space, maintenance convenience and manufacturer after-sales service to ensure the fan can operate stably for a long time.
