How to Determine if Dust Collector Filter Bags Need Replacement and the Replacement Procedure

I. How to Determine if Dust Collector Filter Bags Need Replacement

How to determine if dust collector filter bags need replacement?  Signs include smoke coming from the chimney and dust not being removed from the filter bags.

Dust collector filter bags are the core component of a bag-type dust collector. Timely detection of damaged filter bags is crucial for dust removal. However, the prerequisite is knowing how to determine if the filter bags need replacement. Some damaged filter bags can be identified from their surface, but others require careful inspection. The specific steps are as follows:

1. Open the upper inspection door and directly observe the upper opening and surrounding area of the filter bags. The outlet of a good filter bag will definitely look different from a damaged one! During operation, manually close each air chamber one by one while observing the discharge port to determine which chamber is leaking dust.

2. If the dust collector has a blowpipe, there will be dust on the blowpipe corresponding to the damaged filter bag. This is relatively easy to determine. It's harder to find in a pulse-jet dust collector; you need to first check which chamber has dust accumulation, and then look around the dust accumulation area. The cage opening inside the damaged dust collector filter bag will have dust attached.

3. Check if there is a slight positive pressure phenomenon in the sealed chamber or space connected to the lower part of the dust collector hopper. If so, you can open the upper cover of the dust collector's blowpipe chamber and observe the filter bag holes. The filter bag that is (forced out by the slight positive pressure) emitting dust is the damaged one.

4. If there is no slight positive pressure working environment, you can directly open the upper cover of the blowpipe chamber, start the fan, and observe which filter bag hole is drawing out dust; that filter bag is damaged. In a toxic gas environment, this is the only simple and effective method of inspection. You can shorten the fan operation time. Using fluorescent powder for leak detection is also possible, although it may be more expensive, but the effect is very good.

II. Dust Bag Replacement Steps

It is best to replace the dust filter bags when the dust collector is not in operation. At this time, the ash cleaning controller should be turned off, and the top manhole cover should be opened to remove the filter bags. When removing the bags, first remove the bag cage, then pinch the spring ring at the top of the filter bag into a concave shape, and pull the dust filter bag upwards. Before installing the new bag, the dust on the perforated plate holes should be cleaned.

1. Replacing Filter Bags

First, determine the number and location of the filter bags to be replaced, then remove the blowpipe at the location of the filter bag to be replaced, and simultaneously remove the filter bag and cage. Remove the filter bag from the cage; then insert the assembled filter bag, felt ring, venturi, and cage into the perforated plate hole and fix them in place.

2. Restoring the Blowpipe

The blowpipe hole must be facing downwards and vertically aligned with the center of the venturi tube opening (deviation ±1mm), and ensure that it is securely installed.

3. Covering the Clean Air Chamber Cover Plate

Cover the clean air chamber cover plate, ensuring no leakage.

4. Principles for Replacing Filter Bags

If only a few filter bags need to be replaced, the opening of the new filter bag should be sealed and then buried in dust for a few days to allow a certain amount of dust to accumulate on the filter bag, increasing the resistance of the new filter material and making the resistance of the new filter bag as close as possible to that of the old filter bags. Otherwise, the new bag will be overloaded and damaged prematurely.

5. When the service life of the filter bags in the entire dust collector expires, all filter bags must be replaced to ensure that each filter bag has the same resistance.

The general materials of dust filter bags are polyester, aramid, glass fiber, PPS or P84 fiber materials. Dust filter bags gradually wear out during operation, leading to damage to the bags. When a small area of the bag is worn or damaged, we can use old bags or new filter material of the same material to repair it. However, when most of the bags are damaged, all the bags must be replaced.

Open the top cover: Use appropriate tools to open the top cover of the dust collector. Disassemble the jet pulse system: Following the equipment manual, gradually disassemble the jet pulse system to prepare for replacing the filter bags.

Remove the old filter bags: Gently remove the old filter bags and set them aside, being careful not to damage other components inside the dust collector.

Install the new filter bags: Install the new filter bags into the dust collector according to the equipment specifications and installation steps. Ensure that the filter bags are positioned correctly and securely fastened to the support frame.

Reassemble the jet pulse system: Reinstall the previously removed jet pulse system back into its original position, ensuring a secure installation.

Close the top cover: After checking that all components are installed correctly, close the top cover.
