Dry Scrubbing System for Aluminum Potline Gas Treatment - LEFILTER Solution
Product Introduction:
LEFILTER's Aluminum Pot Gas Treatment Center (GPTC) is a highly specialized dry scrubbing system designed for the challenging chemistry of aluminum smelting. The core technology involves a fluidized bed or injection reactor where hot, highly corrosive potline gases, rich in hydrogen fluoride (HF) and particulate fluorides, are brought into intimate contact with fresh, hot alumina (Al₂O₃). The HF is chemisorbed onto the alumina surface. This alumina is then separated in a subsequent high-efficiency, low-pressure-drop baghouse, constructed with acid-resistant coatings and fluoropolymer-based filter bags (e.g., ePTFE membrane). The entire system is automated to optimize alumina injection rates based on real-time HF concentration, maximizing efficiency.
Application Area:
This is a critical environmental and process system for primary aluminum smelters (potrooms). The electrolytic reduction of alumina to aluminum in Hall-Héroult cells releases gases containing gaseous fluorides (HF), particulate fluorides, sulfur dioxide, and tar fumes from anode baking. These emissions are highly toxic, corrosive to plant infrastructure, and pose severe environmental and health risks. Efficient capture is not only mandated by strict regulations but is also economically vital, as it allows for the recycling of fluoride-saturated alumina back into the electrolytic cells, maintaining the chemical balance of the process.

Our Solution:
LEFILTER provides a complete, closed-loop solution. We engineer the system to handle the high-temperature, humid, and corrosive gas stream from the potroom duct collection system. Our design ensures near-complete >99.5% HF capture efficiency. The heart of the system—the baghouse—is designed for continuous operation with minimal downtime, featuring compartmentalized design for online maintenance. The collected fluoride-enriched alumina is automatically conveyed back to the reduction cells, minimizing raw material loss and process disruption. Our GPTC solution ensures compliance with the strictest global emission limits (e.g., <0.6 kg F/t Al), protects surrounding ecosystems, reduces operational costs through alumina recycling, and safeguards the health of the workforce.
