As the first line of defense in a screw air compressor, the quality of the air filter is crucial.
A poor-quality air filter, like a person getting sick from what they eat, can lead to wasted electricity and directly impact the lifespan of components such as engine oil, oil filter, oil separator, and bearings.
However, the quality of the air filter is often overlooked by so-called experts in the screw air compressor industry.
Many people don't pay attention to the quality of air filters, thinking that as long as it works, it's fine.
Only when the air filter becomes deformed do they realize its poor quality, and even then, they don't know the cause of the deformthey simply replace it with a new one.
Waterproofing is also important.
Everyone knows that air contains a lot of moisture, especially on rainy days.
If the air filter's waterproofing is poor, it will easily become damp. A damp air filter will affect the compressor's air intake, even causing blockages, resulting in wasted electricity for the customer.
Filtration Accuracy
If the filtration accuracy is low, a large amount of fine dust and impurities will be sucked into the screw air compressor, affecting the lifespan of the oil separator, engine oil, oil filter, bearings, etc.
Air Permeability
Poor air permeability will affect the smooth air intake of the screw air compressor and easily cause blockages, resulting in customers wasting a lot of electricity. To test the quality of an air filter, consider the following three aspects:
First, water testing.
This is the most crucial and simplest method. For those without experience, water is the best indicator of air filter quality. Lay the air filter flat on the ground or table and sprinkle some water on the filter paper:
1. If water seeps into the filter paper within 5 minutes, it's made of cotton pulp paper and should never be used. These types of filters are mostly produced in Hebei province, and a few cheap dealers in the screw air compressor industry use them.
2. If water seeps into the filter paper within 2-5 hours, it's made of low-grade wood pulp paper. It can be used, but it will affect the scavenging efficiency of the screw air compressor (higher power consumption, lower air output).
Because this type of filter paper is relatively inexpensive, it can still be used on screw air compressors (the higher power consumption and lower air output is a waste of the customer's money, not your concern, haha).
Therefore, this type of filter paper is currently the mainstream in the air compressor industry, and most screw air compressor shops use this type of filter paper.
3. If water seeps into the filter paper after 12-15 hours, it's considered acceptable (mid-grade filter paper). Higher-quality domestic screw air compressor manufacturers typically use this type of filter paper as their original equipment manufacturer (OEM) consumable.
4. If the filter paper doesn't leak water after 24 hours, it's definitely a superior product (high-grade filter paper). High-end air filter manufacturers typically use this type of filter paper as their original consumable.
Second, check the filter paper against a light source to see if it's uniform, has good light transmittance, and a smooth surface.
If the filter paper is uniform and fine when viewed against the light, has good light transmittance, and a smooth surface, it indicates good filtration accuracy and air permeability. (This simple identification method requires some experience.)
Third, check the depth and number of folds in the filter paper. Deeper filter paper with more folds indicates a larger filtration area, which generally leads to better air permeability.
Achieving good waterproof performance in an air filter isn't particularly difficult, as long as superior filter paper is used... High-quality wood pulp filter paper can meet the requirements, but the production cost will be slightly higher.
The real challenge is to meet both filtration accuracy and air permeability. Only air filters that can simultaneously meet all three requirements are truly good air filters. Finally, we hope everyone will remind customers to clean their air filters frequently.
Frequent cleaning is not only to better protect the screw air compressor, but also to save customers on electricity bills (dust adhering to the air filter surface will affect air intake).
For users in particularly harsh environments, it is best to clean the air filter once a day and replace it every 500-800 hours.
For customers in moderate environments, clean the air filter every 3-7 days and replace it every 1000-1500 hours.
For customers in good environments, replace the air filter every 500-2000 hours.
