There are three types of filters in an air compressor: air filter, oil filter, and oil separator. These are commonly referred to simply as air filter, oil filter, and oil separator.

Filter elements are consumables and need to be replaced after a certain period of use. The replacement methods for the three types of filters differ slightly. What should we pay attention to?

Air Filter Replacement: 

The air filter is one of the protective barriers of the air compressor, filtering impurities from the air. Without air filtration, dust, large particles, and other contaminants in the air will adhere to the inside of the air compressor, affecting machine operation and reducing the lifespan of the lubricating oil.

Air filtered by the air filter is purer. Air filter elements generally need to be replaced after 3000 hours of use, with the interval adjusted depending on the machine's operating environment. Replace the air filter immediately when the blockage reaches -0.05 bar (an alarm sound).

How to Replace an Air Filter

1. When replacing the air filter, the machine should be stopped and the power disconnected before proceeding with other replacement steps.

2. Clean the dust from the air filter housing. You can gently tap both ends of the filter element to remove most of the dry, large-volume dust.

3. Loosen the retaining ring, remove the rubber ring from the dust cover, and empty the dust from the dust cover.

4. Loosen the wing cap and remove the filter element. After removal, clean the inner wall of the air filter housing (do not blow it clean with compressed air). After cleaning, replace the filter element and reinstall the filter.

5. After checking the installed air filter, it can be used normally.

Replacing an Oil Filter

The oil filter is another protective barrier for the air compressor. It filters metal particles and other impurities from the oil, ensuring the purity of the oil and protecting the normal operation of the air compressor's oil circuit system and equipment.

If the air compressor's oil filter malfunctions or is clogged with particles or other impurities, it may cause the air compressor to overheat, potentially affecting the air compressor's lifespan.

Oil filters ensure oil quality after filtration. They generally need replacement after 3000 hours of use, but this lifespan varies depending on the air compressor's operating environment. If the air compressor's lubricating oil is changed, the oil filter also needs to be replaced.

How to Replace an Oil Filter

1. When replacing the oil filter, stop the compressor and release all pressure. Be careful of hot oil to avoid burns.

2. Rotate to remove the old oil filter.

3. Install the new oil filter and apply a layer of oil to the filter element's sealing ring to achieve a seal. Tighten the filter element securely when installing.

4. After replacement, turn on the compressor to check for leaks. If there are no leaks, it can be used normally.

Replacing the Oil-Gas Separator

The oil-gas separator is another barrier in the air compressor, further separating the oil from the air to ensure air purity. The filtered oil can be reused.

Oil separator filter elements typically need replacement after 3000 hours of use, though this period may vary depending on the air compressor's operating environment.

How to Replace an Oil-Gas Separator

1. Before replacing the filter element, stop the machine and check that the rubber and asbestos gaskets are anti-static. During installation, be careful not to let foreign objects fall into the oil tank.

2. Disconnect the hoses, copper pipes, return oil pipes, and cover plates connected to the minimum pressure valve.

3. Remove the oil-gas separator filter element, clean the separator, replace it with a new filter element, and then reassemble the parts in the reverse order of disassembly.

4. During installation, be careful not to let other foreign objects fall into the oil tank. When installing the return oil pipe, insert it into the bottom of the filter element. After installation, test the machine to check that the filter element is intact.
